Outdoor Explorers

24 October 2017 (by schoollogin)

Wow! What an amazing session we have had at Outdoor Explorers Club this evening. We have had a great time using the strikers, lighting the fires, toasting the marshmallows and cooking the bananas and damper bread.

If you want to try the damper bread on your next camping trip then see below for the recipe and method. You will need: • 1 cup self-raising flour • 1 tsp sugar • 1 tbsp butter • 1/2 - 1 cup milk • pinch of salt How to make it: 1. Rub the butter through the flour until it is all crumbly. 2. Mix the salt, sugar and a little milk at a time until it forms a dough. 3. Divide into pieces and roll into a snake shape. Wind around a clean, dry stick. Hold over the campfire to cook The first session back after half term will be focused on nocturnal animals, what they are and where they live. We will build some shelters for insects and hedgehogs. If your child has a torch it would be nice if they could bring it with them to this session.
