Weekly round up
Another week has flown by!
The highlight of this week has definitely been The Great Flood of Driffield. We started by reading an account of events and noted some key facts such as Mr.Stride the butcher's meat was covered in a foot of mud and he had to take his sheep upstairs to the bedroom. The Mariner's Arms lost 3 barrels of beer that floated away. The hail was the size of pigeon eggs. A dog was stuck in a tree and then sadly baby Dora who drowned.
We looked at a map of Driffield and how far the water came up and some old photographs. When we went on the walk we could compare Bridge Street and Exchange Street with the photographs. We found the plaque on Cass Hall and realised how high 7 feet is!!
We also used Google Earth to track the beck as it winds out of Driffield and joins the river and then out to sea.
