Hedgehogs

1 May 2026 (by schoollogin)

We have had another action packed week, exploring minibeasts and learning more about them. We have been hunting for minibeasts in the garden and have found ladybirds, worms, wood lice and spiders. Our caterpillars in the classroom have grown very large and we feel they are getting ready for the next stage in their life cycle.

In maths we have continue to learn about the composition of number to 30, looking at how many tens and ones make up these numbers (simple place value). We have also been thinking about how many more I need to make a given number, for example: I start with 3 marbles in the jar, now I have 7, how many did I add?

In phonics we have continued to read and spell words with adjacent consonants. Today we all wrote the sentence: I can drink lots of milk. If you would like some sentences to practise over the long weekend, try some of these:

I went on a red bus.

My dad has brown hair.

The man has a flat cap.

On Tuesday, we are going to Elmswell Farm for the day. The children need to arrive at normal time and they will return before the end of the school day. The children will travel by tractor and adapted trailer (with seats and seat belts) to the farm. We will then go on a farm walk with Farmer John. The weather forecast looks changeable for next week, so please ensure the children bring a rain coat and appropriate footwear. If your child has wellies in school, we will take them with us. If your child doesn't have a pair of wellies in school, please send them in on Tuesday morning with a pair of wellies in a carrier bag. Please ensure your child is wearing long trousers, no shorts or dresses, as we will walk through long grass and this will stop the children getting irritated. We will provide the children with a school packed lunch, so they don't need to bring any food with them on the day.

Next week, we will also look in detail at the life cycle of a butterfly and learn about the 4 different stages of the cycle.

I hope you all have a lovely bank holiday weekend.

Many thanks for your continued support,

Mrs Dean, Mrs Lawrence & the Hedgehog Team.
