Badgers Class

17 April 2026 (by schoollogin)

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely Easter break.

Our new topic this half term is 'In the Garden.' Our book this week has been 'The Extraordinary Gardener' by Sam Boughton.

We had a very special delivery on Tuesday, we have our very own caterpillars to look after! The children have loved observing the caterpillars, and we are excited to watch them grow and eventually turn into a butterfly.

We have also learned about sunflowers this week. Each child has planted their own sunflower seed and each day we have been taking care of them, waiting for seedlings to grow. Once they begin to grow, the children will be able to bring these home and plant them in their gardens!

In Maths, we have introduced 3D shape: cone, cylinder, sphere and cube. We have sorted them into groups, looked at their properties, walked around the school on a shape hunt, and used 3D shapes to build towers.

Next week, we will be planting bean seeds, using a zip lock food bag as a 'greenhouse'. We will also be spending more time playing outside in the front garden, digging up weeds, planting seeds, searching for minibeasts and much more.

Next Tuesday, we are visiting Driffield Fire Station to learn about the role of a firefighter. As we walk to the station, we will be discussing all of the things we pass on the way, including Tesco, the bank, various shops, and junior school.

Thank you for all of your lovely chocolate prizes. Next Thursday (23rd), we are hosting a Family Bingo night at school. It would be great to see lots of Badgers adults and children there! Lots of lovely chocolate prizes to be won.
Doors open at 5:30pm for a 6pm start. Please enter via the main entrance.

Have a great weekend,

Miss Corrigan and Mrs Chapman
