Welcome back after the Easter holidays!

This half term our topic is 'In the Garden.' We will be planting and growing and learning all about minibeasts we may find in the garden.

This week we started by planting sunflower seeds. Once our seedlings have started to grow, we will send these plants home for you to plant out in your garden at home. I wonder who can grow the tallest sunflower?

We also had a very special delivery on Tuesday morning, we have our very own caterpillars for the classroom, which arrived in the post. The children have been watching the caterpillars eating and growing throughout the week. We hope to see all the stages of the life cycle of a butterfly first hand in the classroom and we are very excited!

In phonics this week we started Phase 4. We don't learn any new phonemes in this phase, but the children learn to read and write words containing adjacent consonants. Such as the CVCC words: went and lamp, CCVC words such as frog and brick and CCVCC words, such as stamp and tramp.

In maths this week we have been learning all about the 3D shapes: cone, cylinder, sphere and cube. Try and find some real object in your house to match these shapes and ask your child what shape they are. For example, a dice is a cube, a tin of beans is a cylinder, a party hat is a cone and a ball is a sphere.

The children have had a great week and they have worked really hard. If you want to practise some sentences at home, you could try one of these:

I went to the park in the car.

I see a shark and a fish.

Gran was at the market.

Please don't forget it is non-uniform day tomorrow. Please send your child in with a chocolate donation for our Chocolate Bingo next week.

Next week promises to be another exciting one, including our walk to the Fire Station on Tuesday.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Kind regards

Mrs Dean, Mrs Lawrence and the Hedgehog Team.
