Hedgehogs

21 March 2026 (by schoollogin)

Good Morning!

What a busy week we have had again in Hedgehogs Class.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Parent/Teacher Consultation meetings earlier this week. It was great to see you all and share how well the children are doing. I hope you found the meetings useful and the information shared valuable.

This week we have been learning all about the season of Spring. We talked about signs of Spring and the changes which occur at this time of year. We then explored the school grounds and identified some signs of spring. We found blossom, buds, daffodils, bird's nests and ladybirds among others. We also discussed how many baby animals are born in the springtime. Mrs Chapman brought in one of the lambs from her farm to meet the children yesterday. The lamb was four weeks old and the children enjoyed seeing her and some even gave her a stroke.

In phonics this week we have been reading and spelling longer words by chunking them into smaller parts. We have used words ending in 'ing' such as marching, winking, singing and farming. We also looked at compound words such as farmyard, rooftop and popcorn.

If you would like to practise some sentences at home this weekend, try this one:

Sam has six coins.

For a more challenging sentence try:

Sam has seven silver coins. (the words seven and silver are longer words, so try to chunk them, sil-ver and sev-en).

In maths this week, we have been revising odd and even numbers and working on recalling numbers bonds to make different numbers to 10. Next week, we will complete our end of term maths assessments and identify areas the children need to work on in the summer term.

Next week, we will focus on the Easter story and talk about why and how Christians celebrate at this time. We will celebrate the end of term on Friday by going to church for our whole school, Easter celebration worship.

As always, if you have any questions about school, please don't hesitate to ask.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Mrs Dean & the Hedgehog Team.
