Science Week

We have had another very exciting week! We started the week with our Spring Term disco on Monday after school. The children enjoyed music, dancing, games and refreshments. A big thank you to everyone who volunteered to help, we are very grateful.

This week has been Science Week. We have talked about what a scientist is and what they do. Our answers were very different at the start and end of the week. Each afternoon the children have been involved in different experiments, making predictions and then observing what happened. We have had explosions, colour mixing and flappy fish races. Please ask your child what they have learnt about science this week, I'm sure you'll be amazed!

We have continued with daily phonics and maths sessions this week. In phonics we have been reading and spelling words with more than one diagraph in them. For example: sh-ar-k, sh-ee-p, sh-or-t and s-i-ng-er. In today's lesson all the children attempted to write a dictated sentence. I told the children the sentence, modelled it on the board and then hid it away. The children then had a go at writing this sentence independently, using their knowledge of phonics to support their spelling. We wrote: I put seven cats in a boat.

In maths this week we have been learning different pairs of numbers which go together to make 10. These pairs of numbers are called number bonds. The children will need to know some of these number bonds automatically to achieve their number Early Learning Goal. For example: if I have 6, how many more do I need to make 10?

Thank you to everyone for making parent/teacher consultation meeting appointments. You should have all received a slip with the time of your child's appointment. If you are at all unsure, please just ask. I am looking forward to sharing your child's progress with you next week.

Next week, we will begin to talk about the season of spring and some of the changes which happen at this time of year. When you are out and about, please point out spring flowers, blossom on the trees and baby animals in the farmer's fields.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and a restful Mother's Day on Sunday.

Kind regards

Mrs Dean & the Hedgehog Team.
