Badgers Class

27 February 2026 (by schoollogin)

We hope you had a lovely half term, it is good to see all the children back in school refreshed and ready to go!

This week, we have been learning all about the Lunar New Year. We started off learning about what it is and how it is celebrated, then on Tuesday we read the book ‘The Great Race’ by Emily Hiles which taught us about the Chinese Zodiac and the order of the animals. We identified that the children were either born in the year of the rat (2020) or the year of the ox (2021). On Wednesday, we had a try of some traditional Chinese dishes including vegetable spring rolls and prawn crackers. The prawn crackers went down a treat, and we had mixed reviews with the spring rolls! Throughout the week, we have been working as a whole class to create a big dragons head from carboard. The children have also each made their own dragon masks. Today, the children took part in a dragon dance parade through school! We had our big dragon head at the front leading the way, and we wore our dragon masks to follow the leader, moving our bodies up and down pretending we were the dragon’s body.

In Maths, we have explored a new topic this week of height and length and time. The children have used the words short and long to talk about length, short and tall talking about height, and gained an understanding of how long a minute is by completing different activities (How many star jumps can you do in one minute? How many cubes can you stack in one minute?)

Next week, we are celebrating careers week. Each day, we have a different person visiting the school to talk about their job including a journalist, a school nurse and a staff member from Network Rail.
On Friday, the children will have the opportunity to dress up as ‘what they want to be when they are older’.

As well as this, we will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday. The day will involve lots of different activities linking to the theme ‘Read Everywhere And Discuss.’ We invite parents into school at 2:30pm on Thursday to come and complete games and activities with your child. Please remember that it is school uniform as normal.

Have a great weekend,

Miss Corrigan and Mrs Chapman
