The Deep!

What a fantastic day we had yesterday, the children were all amazing and they enjoyed the day so much. I heard several comments of, 'this is the best day ever!' We had several children who fell asleep on the bus on the way home, always a sign of a good day out.

This week, we have learnt four new phonemes in our phonics lessons: ur as in fur and burn, ow as in owl and cow, oi as in boil and coin and ear as in hear and beard. The children have been learning to read words containing these new sounds and write words containing them by segmenting the sounds and then writing the letter/s to match each sound.

In maths this week, we have been learning all about numbers 6, 7 and 8. The children have learnt to recognise how we can represent these numbers in different ways and they have matched the correct number of actions to each numeral. The children have been learning one more than 5, 6, 7 and 8 today by building towers and then adding on one more.

In our theme lessons we have been learning more about penguins and where they live. The children have learnt about how ice is made and what happens when we heat ice up. The children have been experimenting with melting ice in the classroom and in the outside area to free the penguins trapped inside.

Next week we invite you to another Stay and Play session, this month we will demonstrate some maths activities and will show you some of the maths themed learning we do in school. We will also show a collection of photographs from our visit to The Deep. We really hope you will be able to join us at 2pm on Wednesday 28th January.

Have a lovely weekend with your family.

Kind regards

Mrs Dean and the Hedgehog Team
