Badgers Class

23 January 2026 (by schoollogin)

What a lovely trip we had to The Deep. The children’s behaviour was brilliant, and they learned lots of information about all the different sea creatures. In the morning, they explored the aquarium- looking at all the different sea creatures we have been learning about in school. After lunch time, the children attended a workshop led by the staff members at The Deep. This workshop taught them all about how we can look after our oceans.

In Phonics this week, our new sounds are ur (curl, turn) oi (join, boil), ow (town, cow) and ear (beard, near). Our new tricky words this week are my, by, all.

In Maths, we have started a new topic ‘growing 6,7,8’. We have introduced numbers 6, 7 and 8 and explored different ways to represent each number including counters on a ten frame, using our fingers to show the numbers, and looking at where they are on our number line.

In PE, we are continuing to work on our ball skills. This week, we have practised moving the ball using our feet. We took part in a relay race in which we had to dribble the ball using our feet to the end of the hall and back, really working on controlling and steering the ball.

Our book this week has been Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. The children had some great predictions at the start of the week, and have thoroughly enjoyed the book.

We also explored change of matter, from solid to liquid, using ice. A toy penguin had got stuck in the ice, and it was our job to think of ideas to help the penguin escape! What needed to happen to the ice? They had some brilliant ideas, including: putting the ice in the sunshine to melt, using a hair dryer to melt the ice, and putting it in an oven!

Next Thursday (29th) is our marvellous maths stay and play session! It would be great to see as many faces as possible- the children enjoy showing off their classroom and all their hard work. Please arrive at the main reception just before 2pm.

Have a great weekend,

Miss Corrigan and Mrs Chapman
