Week 2 news!
Another busy week in Badgers class! This week, our book of the week is Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae. In this book we have read and discussed many sea creatures including crabs, swordfish, turtles, angelfish, dolphins, sharks, jellyfish, octopus, stingray, lobster, anglerfish, blue whale, walruses, penguins and polar bears! We have learned lots of interesting facts about each one, and we've also been having crab races outside at busy time, moving side to side!
This week in phonics we have learned the digraphs: oo (moon, boot, food), oo (look, cook, book), ar (dark, park) and or (born, fork). Our new tricky words this week are: was, they, you. In your child's bookbag this week you'll have received a handout with all of our new digraphs on that we have learned last week, this week, and will continue to learn over the next 2 weeks. It would be great for you to start pointing these out to children as they come across them in words in their books.
In Maths, we have continued to explore the composition of number 5 by subitising two groups of dots. If you can subitise 3 and subitise 2, we can put them together to make 5. Towards the end of the week, we introduced a new topic- mass and capacity. The children will explore using a bucket balance as they measure mass using the vocabulary heavy and light. It would be great to continue to use this vocabulary with your child at home with everyday household items.
In PE, we are continuing to develop our ball skills. On Tuesday, we had a try at dribbling a large ball using our hands, navigating the space well ensuring we don't bump into our friends. We also explored bouncing and catching- the children showed great perseverance!
Next Thursday (22nd) is our trip to The Deep! The children are very excited to see some of the animals we have been talking and reading all about. Please ensure your child arrives at school on time, wearing their school uniform. The coach is due to arrive back at school by the end of the school day. Please collect your child as normal in the EYFS playground at 3:15.
If you have any spare clothes at home (provided by school if your child has been wet/had an accident), please can you make sure they are returned back to school.
Thank you,
Miss Corrigan and Mrs Chapman
