What a brilliant week we have had!

The children have absolutely loved the snow and experiencing what it felt like. We even managed to find enough snow to make our own snowman.

On Wednesday we walked across the road to the Driffield Library. He children learnt about what a librarian does and what you can do in a library. If your child has a library card they took out a book, these books can be borrowed for up to 3 weeks and then they will need returning to the Driffield library. If you didn't send in a form or it wasn't fully completed, I have sent you another one in your child's bookbag today. Just fill this in and take it across to the library and they will produce you a library card. We learnt that as well as books and audio books, the children can borrow games and jigsaws from the library as well.

In phonics this week, the children have learnt the new phonemes: z, zz, qu and ch. The children are really developing their blending skills and we practise this lots in our daily lessons. We also practise forming the letters correctly and using these sounds to spell simple CVC words like zip, quick and chip.

In maths we have continued to explore the composition of numbers to 5, finding different combinations of numbers which total 5.

Today, we have had a wonderful time dressing up as our favourite characters from Fairy Tales or Nursery Rhymes. The children have enjoyed finding out about who we are all dressed up as and sharing some of these stories. Throughout the week, we have been working in small groups to design and make strong houses for one of the three little pigs. This afternoon we will test them by blowing a hair dryer at the houses to see if they are strong enough to beat the Big Bad Wolf with all his huffing and puffing!

Next Tuesday (25th Nov) it is our second Stay and Play session. We would love it if you can join us in school from 2pm - 3pm.

Yesterday, your child brought home a letter explaining who they will be in this year's nativity and the costume they would need. If you have any questions regarding this or anything else, please don't hesitate to ask.

Kind regards

Mrs Dean and the Hedgehog Team
