Week 2!
We started off our week with a visit from our local PSCO and police officer. The children were taught all about road safety and how we can be seen in the dark. They were happy to know that our school bookbags have a reflective strip on, and thrilled that some children have reflective keyrings on their coats! Then, the children had the opportunity to try on the police uniform and explore various police equipment. The children went out onto the big playground and spotted the police car! They each had a sit inside the car and listened as the police man put on the sirens. The children really enjoyed their morning.
This week, we have continued to learn more nursery rhymes- with a focus on our counting rhymes. This week, we have looked at 1 less than with numbers to 5. For example, what is 1 less than 4? 1 less than 3? We have looked closely at the term 'less than' and spoke about how the number gets smaller. The children have enjoyed acting out '5 currant buns' and noticed that we have less buns as the song goes on. We have used 5 frames as we sang '5 little men in a flying saucer', taking a counter away each time.
As well as the rhymes in maths, the children have played a game of rhyming bingo! They had 3 words on their strip, and they had to listen out for words that rhyme with their words! They thoroughly enjoyed the game and have gained a good understanding of rhyming words. On Wednesday 26th November at 2pm, we are hosting a rhyming themed stay and play session, the children will have the opportunity to play rhyming bingo alongside their adult, and demonstrate how super they are at spotting rhyming words. We would love to see as many adults as possible.
In Phonics this week, our new sounds are v, w, x and y. The children are reading new words including their new letters including van, vet, wig, win, box, fox, yes, yum. Our new tricky words this week are: and, has, his, her.
Next Thursday (20th) , the children will be heading across the road to visit Driffield Library. The children were given a letter in their bookbags this week with a form to fill in. Please can you return the form by next Monday (17th).
Next Friday (21st), as part of our nursey rhymes and well known tales topic, we are having a fairy-tale dress up day! Please send your child to school dressed up as their favourite character in a book/nursery rhyme. We look forward to seeing all of our characters!
Thank you for your ongoing support,
