Week 6 News!

We have had another busy week in Hedgehog Class.

The building work has begun in our EYFS playground, so we have enjoyed exploring the front garden in our 'Busy Time.' We have enjoyed exploring the natural materials and have been excited to find some living creatures, including worms and ladybirds. The building work should all be completed by the end of next week and then the children can enjoy exploring the new areas at the back of the school again.

In phonics this week we have learnt the new phonemes: h, b, f and l. The children are really enjoying blending these sounds together with the ones they already know. I am really impressed with the children's blending and their early reading is progressing very well.

In maths this week we have been learning all about repeating patterns. The children have spotted repeating patterns in stories and rhymes. They have continued repeating patterns started by the teacher and created their own AB repeating pattern with two colours in it, for example: red, blue, red, blue, red, blue. The children have also spotted mistakes in repeating patterns and tried to fix them. This is something you could make at home with household objects, for example: apple, banana, apple, banana.... What would come next? If your child can complete this, try adding a third objects, for example: knife, fork, spoon, knife, fork, spoon etc.

Thank you for sending in your family photographs, the children have really enjoyed talking about the different members of their family and spotting similarities and differences between their family and that of their friends.

This week the children have been expressing preferences, talking about things they enjoy and things they don't like, linked to our Book of the Week, I like Bees, I don't like Honey.

Next week, the children will talk about how they have grown and changed since they were a baby. In advance of our lesson on Monday, please talk to your child about some things they can do now which they couldn't do when they were a baby.

Thank you to everyone who has made a parent/teacher consultation appointment for next week. If you haven't made an appointment yet and would like to, please come and see me. I am looking forward to meeting you all and talking about how the children have settled into school.

Have a lovely weekend with your family.

Kind regards

Mrs Dean & the Hedgehog Team.
