Week 4
What a fun filled week!
This week, the children visited church for our harvest celebrations. Badgers and Hedgehogs enjoyed their harvest experience, exploring 5 different stations around the church. The children listened carefully as Mrs Chapman taught them all about the things we should be thankful for at harvest; the sheep for providing us with wool, thankful for the seeds that we plant that grow into beautiful fruit and vegetable plants (as shown in the picture), and thankful for the crops that grow that we can use to make bread and many other yummy foods! We were then joined by the rest of the school for our Harvest Service. The children sat beautifully as they listened to the year 1 and 2 children read their harvest prayers. Then, we celebrated by singing our harvest songs!
Thank you to the parents who were able to attend the Phonics, Reading and Maths expectations meeting at the start of the week. If you were unable to attend, please find the presentation on the school website (Curriculum- Helping your child at home- EYFS information). The children also brought home some handouts in their bookbag on Thursday evening. The handouts include ways you can support your child at home, and help to gain a better understanding of what your child is taught in phonics.
In Phonics this week, we have learned the sounds g, o, c, k. We have also learned the tricky word 'is'. It is great to see that the children are beginning to read new words with their new sounds.
In Maths, we have had a look at comparing amounts using different everyday objects. We have used vocabulary 'more' and 'less'. This is something that you can reinforce at home,
The children have been introduced to Boris the robot this week! Boris is a character that is part of our PSHE curriculum called Heartsmart. Heartsmart teaches the children how important it is to make the right choices and how to be a kind and caring individual. We look forward to Boris teaching us more about this across the year.
On Tuesday, some children had their vision screening checks completed in school. Not all children were completed, therefore they will be arranging another visit later on in the year, so please don't worry if your child did not get it done.
The children will be brining home an 'autumn bag' in their bookbag tonight for you to collect some Autumn goodies to use in school. We will be discussing signs of Autumn in the upcoming weeks.
We are also asking for the children to bring in some copies of family photographs to discuss as a whole class. The pictures can include whoever you wish! (The children will have a letter in their bag explaining this further).
Have a great weekend,
Miss Corrigan and Mrs Chapman
