What a great start to the school year!
All of the Hedgehog class have settled in so well. They are beginning to learn our daily routines and anticipate what comes next.
This week we have continued to settle the children in with lots of their time spent in child initiated activities both indoors and outside.
We have begun our daily phonics lessons this week and we have introduced the children to the sounds, 's, a, t & p.' The children have begun to recognise these sounds and say them when they see the matching letter (grapheme). We have begun to blend some sounds together to orally blend sounds to make words. Some of the children are finding this a little tricky at present, which is perfectly normally for the start of September. This is something you could practise at home, say the sounds in a word and see if your child can identify the word. For example, put on your h - a - t, can you find your c - oa - t.
We will provide more information about phonics and how you can help your child at home in the Phonics, Reading & Maths meeting on Monday 22nd September at 2.30pm in the school hall. Please try to attend if you are able, we hope you will find it useful and informative.
Lots of the children are coming to school without a coat each day, please make sure your child always has a waterproof coat with them, as the weather is very unpredictable at the moment.
If you have any questions or queries, please just ask.
Have a lovely weekend with your family.
Kind regards
Mrs Dean & the Hedgehog team.
