Let's Move!
Welcome back to your child's final half term in Hedgehogs. The time seems to have flown by!
This half term our topic will be, 'Let's Move.' The children have already begun to think about how they move and the different vehicles that can carry passengers and cargo from one place to another. We have made a list of different types of transport and many of the children have been sharing their experiences of travelling in different vehicles. If you have any photographs (not precious originals) of your child on a bus, or train, or aeroplane, please send them into school and we will create a display. It could be your child on their bike or scooter, any mode of transport!
As we near the end of the year, we are putting together our final assessments of the children and looking at the Foundation Stage Profile. This is the seventeen statements we have to assess the children against at the end of their first year at school. We will share this information with you in your child's end of year report.
We continue to practise daily phonics activities, this week we have been reading and spelling words containing adjacent consonants and Phase 3 vowel digraphs, for example: paint, toast, gloom, float, bleed, groan, spoon etc.
We are also continuing to practise instant recall of the Phase 4 tricky words: said, there, says, some, here, little, were, today, do, come, love, so, have, out, one, what & when.
In maths we have been revising doubles and odd and even numbers. You could practise some doubling at home using dominoes or playing a game with two dice. When they roll a double, can they tell you the total without counting up all the spots?
Next week we will continue with out transport based topic and will be focussing on bicycles. We will look at a bicycle and locate and name the different parts and we will also look at the history of bicycles. We will look at some pictures of old bicycles, including the Penny Farthing.
A reminder that Thursday is PE, please make sure your child has their PE kit and trainers on and make sure long hair is tied up.
Next Friday we have a special whole school music day to enjoy, with a special visitor in school!
We hope you have a lovely weekend. if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Kind regards
Mrs Dean & Miss Wain
