End of term!

Thank you for coming to support and cheer on the children at sports day, what a brilliant day we had!

This week, our story of the week has been Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne. The children have enjoyed reading about the exotic fruits stolen by all the animals! Following on from this, we explored Africa in great detail. We located the United Kingdom on the map and then located Africa. The children learned lots about life in Africa and we made comparisons to our life in the UK. We have discussed and watched videos of the animals living in Africa including lions, giraffes and elephants!

In Phonics, we are continuing to read words with adjacent consonants. This week, our focus has been words ending in 'ing', words in which the 'ed' at the end makes a 't' sound (jumped, blinked), words in which the 'ed' at the end makes a 'id' sound (grunted, melted), and words ending in -est.
We have assessed the children in Phonics this week, the children are making great progress.
It would be brilliant if you could continue to use the tricky word flashcards at home.

In Maths, our focus this week has been sharing between groups. The children have been sharing strawberries between two and three bears at Teddy Bear's picnic and sharing odd amounts to realise not all amounts can be shared equally.

The children have enjoyed watching their sunflowers grow over the last four weeks, they have done a great job of remembering to care for their plant. I hope they grow beautifully in your own gardens!

Next term will be the last term as a Badger! Our new topic will be 'Let's Move!' focusing on different modes of transport. We will be reading lots of stories based on different modes of transport including Duck in a Truck, Whatever Next and Mrs Armitage on Wheels. Over the half term, speak with your child about the different modes of transport, maybe you can keep an eye out on your travels and point them out to your child!
Another idea of a job to do at home is to write their own sentences. It could be about what they have been doing in their week off, challenging them to sound out and have a go at writing on their own!

Have a lovely week off, and we will see you back on Tuesday 3rd June.
