Growing, minibeasts and sunshine!

I hope you are enjoying your bank holiday weekend.

What a fantastic week it was last week and we certainly enjoyed some wonderful weather. We spent lots of time in the garden at the front of school. We searched for minibeasts and identified them using checklists. The children found different plants and vegetables growing in the garden, including rhubarb which they picked. The children's sunflowers have started to grow and they have been watering them and helping to take care of the seedlings in school.

The children worked in groups to make zippy bag greenhouses for their bean seeds. The beans have already split and the roots have started to grow. Which was very exciting!

In maths last week, we revised the composition of 5 using the number blocks to support our learning. The children also calculated how many had been added to a group of objects using their knowledge of number bonds to support their calculating.

In phonics last week, the children continue to work with words containing adjacent consonants. They also practised writing another dictated sentence in their sentence book. If you would like some sentences to write at home, please use one or both of the sentences below:
1. The frog swam in the pond.
2. I went to sleep in the tent at night.
In phonics this week, we introduced the 'tricky words:' some, come, love & do.

Last week, the children have been learning all about the religion of Buddhism. The children have learnt the story and Buddha and identified similarities and differences between Buddhism and Christianity.

We also enjoyed our first outdoor PE lesson of the year. The children have been practising ball skills. They learnt how to control the ball with different parts of the body.

This week our Book of the Week is The Enormous Turnip. The children will build on their knowledge of vegetables and growing in the garden. They will continue to learn more about Buddhism, with a particular focus on the importance of meditation.

Please make sure your child comes to school with a hat and a rain coat each day. If we are fortunate enough to have good weather, please apply sun cream before the start of the school day.

Many thanks for your continued support,

Kind regards
Mrs Dean & Miss Wain.
