Seal Class30 April 2025 (by schoollogin) |
In history, this week, the Seals have started to compare their lives with that of a Victorian child. They were shocked to learn that, in poor families, children as young as four may have had to work! We explored the jobs of:
-Bird scarer
-Mine worker
-Scavenging in a cotton mill
-Domestic maid
The children acted out one of the roles (can they tell you which one is being role-played in this photo?) and considered what the job may have involved. They were asked the question: Whose life do you think was easier, yours or a Victorian child’s? They all answered theirs.
The reasons given were:
Children in the Victorian times had to do dangerous thing; we don’t.
We get to come to school and learn lots. They didn’t
We have time to play with our friends. They didn’t.
