Elmswell excitement!

What a fantastic day at Elmswell for the Kingfishers today! We started our day by studying photographs of houses and farms in Kenya and discussing the similarities and differences between these and our own homes and farms.
As we moved around Elmswell, Farmer John shared his wealth of knowledge about the comparisons too. He has just returned from Africa and told us all about the lion he saw with her five cubs! He told us how Kenyan farm houses would be made from mud, or hard wood that termites cannot eat with thatched roofs made from elephant grass. We compared these ideas with the materials his own farmhouse is made from and made some detailed sketches.
Farmer John talked to us about the crops he normally grows (but unfortunately not this year due to the vast amount of rain) and we discussed crops that might be grown in Kenya. He explained how many Kenyan farmers would own cattle and we enjoyed looking at Farmer John's cows, bulls and new arrivals-the calves which were a huge hit with all!
We made maps of Elmswell Farm to compare the use of land to that with a Kenyan Farm.
A day full of learning in the great outdoors with some glorious sunshine-thank you Farmer John and well-done Kingfishers!
