Online safety warning.26 February 2019 (by schoollogin) |
MoMo
Recently in the news there have been reports of a challenge suicide game called MoMo. Reports state that children have seen this pop up on Whatsapp, YouTube and Minecraft.
Some cyber experts state this is a tool for hackers to gain personal information, others state that there has been no actual proof that this game exists and it can only be accessed by actually searching for it on the internet and this is how children have heard about it through adults. This has happened previously with the Blue Whale game which was then found to be a hoax and urban myth.
However, some of our children have mentioned seeing the image of MoMo and being very scared. Please be vigilant as to what your child can access on the internet.
The NSPCC publishes advice and guidance for parents on discussing online safety with their children, as well as Net Aware - the UK's only parental guide to social media and gaming apps.
