Driffield Church Of England Voluntary Controlled Infant School

This week we began our Young Leaders’ Award and completed some different activities that focused on kindness. The children had to discuss words that might hurt us (sandpaper words), and ones that make us feel happy (cotton wool words). This led on to the ripples of kindness activity which was a lot of fun. We filled a large container with water and placed it in the middle of the classroom. Four items were chosen for us to examine whether they would create big or small ripples. The items were a pen, a glue stick, a ball and a can of drink. After making some predictions, the items were dropped into the water and the results were recorded. I’m sure you can guess which one the children were most excited to see.

In Science we explored materials that would be suitable for building an animal shelter. This week the focus was on finding one that was waterproof. The children made predictions and carried out an experiment, making sure that it was a fair test.
