Cotton Wool and Cotton Candy!
Today the children discovered the science behind candy floss making.
'When you pour sugar into the centre of a candy floss machine, the coils inside heat the sugar to its melting point and break the bonds of the constituent molecules. The hydrogen and oxygen atoms rearrange to form water molecules and promptly evaporate, leaving only carbon behind.'
It was delicious! We have also started an experiment growing cress which the children have taken home to look after. We have left other pots in the dark and with water or dry. We will look at the effects of the different conditions next week. As next week is our last session the children have suggested some investigations that they would like to do. These include flour rockets, coke and Mentos, potions and washing hands investigation.
