David McKee was the focus of today's 'Family Book Club'. Most recently, he is best known for his books about 'Elmer The Patchwork Elephant' but he is also the author who created King Rollo and Mr. Benn.
Today we all enjoyed reading his book 'Not Now Bernard' in which Bernard's parents pay so little attention to him that a monster eats him and takes his place! We all felt grateful to have such lovely parents; not like Bernard's at all. I was reliably informed that the parents we know might say 'just wait a minute, please' but would never dream of completely ignoring their children!
We imagined what a sequel to this book might be about. We thought that the monster may also eat the parents eventually (and many thought this would be well-deserved!). We suspected that then the monster might invite his friends and family to live with him in the parents' house. The children created their own versions of these monsters and they showed an abundance of creative flair and imagination making these.
Thank you to all children, parents and relatives for making this another happy and fun-filled session.
