Learning through Friendship and Fun

Links with Glenfield Care Home

We are currently working with Glenfield Residential Care Home in Driffield. We are hoping that the children and elderly residents working together will raise self esteem and well being as well as developing confidence in the children.

A small group of children are visiting once a fortnight to engage in activities with a small group of residents. During our first visit the children chatted confidently with the ladies, it was great to see their confidence grow during the session and the bond they formed,

The Choir visited on 13th December to entertain the residents with their favorite Christmas songs.

Our group continued to  visit after Christmas, it was so wonderful to see their confidence grow and to see them develop real friendships with the group of residents. We were delighted that Alan joined our group after he saw the choir perform. The children have loved hearing his stories about his days at school (both as a child and teacher). Over the last few weeks the children have chatted to their new friends about what they like to do at school and have also found out a lot about school days of the past.

On our last visit we taught each other games, Alan taught the children how to play 'Beggar my neighbour' with cards, some of the ladies taught them  ( or those who didn't already know) how to play dominoes and then the children taught the residents how to play hungry frogs!. We will be back to visit soon and the choir are looking forward to returning after Easter. The children can't wait to welcome Joan, Alan and Vi to school for coffee and cake when the weather picks up.

It has been a real pleasure to see how well the youngest and oldest members of our community can interact and form genuine friendships.

The choir made a return trip in July to entertain with a new repetoire of songs!
