Your homework this week is to practise the Active Learn game 'Balloon Pop 1.29a'. It is a game which helps you to learn about finding change from different amounts.

 

23rd June 2017

This week we have been revisiting some prior learning on telling the time. It has challenged many of you so a little extra practise may be just what you need. Marching Madness 1.28a is a fun way to recognise telling the time to the nearest quarter of an hour. Have a go and see how you get on.

There is a new game on Active Learn called 'Canopy Chaos' where you will practise doubling and halving. Please also continue to read and have a go at the new spellings.

Half Term Homework

  • I have assigned a new game called Nimble Gnomes where you will practise doubling and halving. 
  • Take some time to collect natural materials. Use them to create your own piece of natural artwork in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.
  • Keep practising spelling numbers 0-20. If you manage this see how many more numbers you can do.

You have your spelling cards again with the next set of words highlighted for you. I have put two games onto Active Learn this week. One is called Seaside Scuffle where you are required to order and compare numbers. The other is a Days of the Week game.

Have a go at 'Marching Madness' where you will practise adding and subtracting ten.

This week I have changed your spelling slightly. You will need to practise writing numbers 1-10 in words. See how many you can learn to spell off by heart.

There is a new game called 'Balloon Pop' for you to try. It will help you to practise mental addition. 

Ask a grown up to help you find out some information about Grace Darling. Who was she and why was she so famous?

Firstly, I would like to say a huge well done to those children who have regularly completed their homework. It is fantastic to see the effort that you go to at home as well as having long days at school.

 

Over the Easter holidays I would like you to have a go at a few things:

  • Read your reading book at least three times.
  • Have a go at the Abacus games
  • Spend some time playing different maths games. From kicking a football back and forth counting in 2s, 5s or 10s to helping with the shopping or some baking. 
  • Use natural materials found in the garden or at the park to make a picture. 
  • Write a diary entry for one day of your choice. Show the people at home how much your writing has come on. Don't forget those capital letters and full stops!

Have a lovely break and please stay safe.

Well done to those children that have been able to read. The progress that you are making is fantastic so keep up the good work.

I would like you to get a grown up to write ten random numbers on a piece of paper. Can you sort them into ones that are odd and ones that are even?

There are also new spellings and a new game on ActiveLearn called 'Marching Madness' where you will be practising time.

This week we have been learning about adding number one digit numbers and two digit numbers in our heads. Can you find all the number pairs to make 14 in your head? Next week you will be looking at measuring weight. Can you find out what we could measure weight in?

You have some new spelling and do not forget to read.

This week we have been learning how to tell the time to the hour and half past. See if you can tell the time by looking at the clock over the weekend. Next week we are going to be looking at plants. Can you look in your garden, in the park or whilst you are out and about and find a plant you like? Then can you draw a picture of it and try and find out its name.

You also have some new spellings to learn and do not forget to read. Also, have a look at Bubble Burst 1.18a, 1.18b and 1.18c on Abacus.

This week we have been learning about number pairs. Can you have a look at car number plates or door numbers and see if you can add them together? Next week we are going to be doing some work on materials. See if you can find any materials at home and see if they are waterproof or not. 

Also, have a look at Bop a Bird 1.17a, 1.17b and 1.17c on Abuaus.

This week we have been learning about a 1/2 and a 1/4 of shapes. Can you have a look around this weekend and see if there are any objects that you can split to show a 1/2 or a 1/4.

This week we have been learning about 3D shapes. Can you go on a shape hunt this weekend and find objects that are examples of a:

  • Sphere
  • Cylinder
  • Cube
  • Cuboid
  • Pyramid
  • Cone

You can draw or take pictures of your findings to share with the class next week.

For your homework I have provided you with a number line which is similar to the ones that we use in school. Get a grown up to challenge you with some 2D + 1D number sentences. If you are really good at those they can try some word problems. 

There is also another set of spellings. Please make sure that these are brought into school on a Friday.

You have all been given a brand new spelling card and each week you will be given five words to practise at home. Each new set will be dotted in a different colour. We will have an (informal) spelling test every Friday and you will get a sticker for your charts for every full set of words that you can spell correctly.

Note to parents: Please do not write on the cards, thank you!

For your homework I would like you to practise writing your ten times table. Can you get someone to ask you the questions in a random order to see how quickly you can respond?

Your homework is to have a go at the newest game on Active Learn (Starfish Strike).

Also I would like you to practise using some money, can you put some coins in the right order from the lowest to the highest value? If you visit the shops see if you can find the right amount to pay for something. Or you could practise at home instead.

This week your homework is to have a go at the new games (Toucan Team and Build a Railway) on active learn.

I would also like you to have a go at measuring 5 different items in your home and recording the results. 

Triangles: Who is the shortest/tallest in your house? Can you measure them and work out the difference in height?

You have all worked really hard in maths this week. There is a final Clam Collector game for you to try. Also please can you make sure that you have read your reading books!

Over half term I would like you to have a go at the following:

  • Read your book three times
  • Play the next Clam Collector game
  • Practise spelling some of the tricky words in the back of your reading record
  • Have a look at the different coins in your Mum's purse. Can you identify each different coin?   Triangles choose two coins and add them together.

This week we have been looking at symmetry. Can you find anything at home that is symmetrical?

This week we have been practising subtraction. Can you find twenty different toys to use to practise writing number sentences at home? Try one digit take away one digit and then move on to two digits take away one digit.
